The Christian Sentinel E-update - March 1, 2003

Special Offer this month: the new 703-page paperback edition of Walter Martin's classic: The Kingdom of the Cults

Now that this book has been modified with Hank Hanegraaff's name removed from the cover as general editor in this paperback edition, and with a disclaimer inserted in the introduction of an unfortunate, discredited chapter on mind control, The Christian Sentinel is adding this book as a resource.  To order this book by invoice click here to tell Bill you want it, and we'll get a copy right out to you.  To go to our order form, click here. Price: $16, plus shipping.  Also, see story at the right near the end.

Many of the teachings of Walter Martin are on line, including his Newport Mesa Bible Class and his Essential Christianity radio program.  To access it click here on http://www.waltermartin.org.

From last month's E-update:  Did the Trinity Broadcasting Network steal the logo from the Phillip Morris Cigarette Company?  A spokeswoman for the cigarette manufacturer told us that they certainly look similar.  However, there will probably be no action against TBN.  It might have been unconscious plagiarism, which is hard to prove.  Besides, TBN has been using this logo for about a decade.

For the third month in a row, price dramatically slashed to $5 on Christian Sentinel President Bill Alnor's book, UFO Cults and the New Millennium

In this 1998 book, which normally retails for $14.99, Bill exposed the dangerous theologies of Malachi York and the Raelian movement (the UFO cult that recently claims to have cloned two human babies) and other UFO cults.  A little more than a month ago York fell into more scandal by admitting to having sex with children in his cult, the Ancient Mystical Order of Melchizedek.

Also, Bill Alnor's first book on UFOs, UFOs in the New Age, dealt partly with the Raelians.

Benny Hinn Ministries Refuses to Answer Doctrinal Questions Following Threats to Sue The Christian Sentinel
bullet

Talks between attorneys from the scandalized Benny Hinn Ministries and The Christian Sentinel broke down after the Hinn ministries breached a promise to answer questions concerning questionable statements he made.  Attorneys representing Benny Hinn, promised to answer our questions as part of a dialogue with The Christian Sentinel following concerns over several articles that appeared in our website, http://www.cultlink.com.

bullet

To examine our list of questions the Hinn people pledged to answer click here.  For more than 10 years Bill and Jackie Alnor have been documenting the false teachings of Benny Hinn, and in June 2001 we documented some of his false prophecies in an article titled Benny Hinn -- False Prophet Extraordinaire.  For another good resource on Benny Hinn and his false teachings, order The Confusing World of Benny Hinn available from http://www.pfo.org

bullet

The discussions with Hinn's attorneys began around the same time period, and especially after this website indexed a story in a major newspaper in South Africa that implied that Suzanne Hinn, wife of the evangelist, was arrested for shoplifting.  Our discussions with Hinn's legal team were fruitful in helping to establish evidence that the woman arrested was probably an imposter. (This was supported, according to Hinn attorney David Joe, by private investigators the ministry retained in South Africa.)  To read our revised report on the incidents with new commentary, click here.

New resources are now available exposing the deceptive teachings of Brennan Manning.  In 1992 The Christian Sentinel exposed some of his false teachings, which was followed by Christian author Dave Hunt also sounding the alarm.  Then came an insightful article exposing the new age/occultic agenda in Manning's book The Signature of Jesus in volume 21:4-22:1 of the Spring 1998 Spiritual Counterfeits Journal.

bullet

Now the Lighthouse Trails Publishing Company has created a website exposing more false teachings of Manning, as the evidence of his apostasy is evident to all.  Click here to access it.

bullet

But despite the truth, the untold story behind exposing Manning as a wolf in sheep's clothing, is that he was at first propped up and defended by the respected evangelical publishing house, Multnomah Publishers.  Perhaps that's because they published his book, The Ragamuffin Gospel, and had a financial interest in the product.  Multnomah officials Steve Halliday and Joseph Adrich were particularly irresponsible.  Now here, for the first time, is the inside story of scripture twisting, a lack of discernment and a breach of trust and Christian stewardship by Multnomah and these men.  It's a new article by Jackie Alnor that discusses the debacle and provides documentation that sometimes all is not well in evangelical publishing.

Catholic Answers, a new section of our Web site introduced last month, has been received with much enthusiasm.  Now we have added some new articles to coincide with this March 2003 E-update.  They are:

Vatican-sponsored witchcraft  (Rome and Harry Potter)

bullet

Stigmatas, Suffering and the Catholic Church  (What are we to make of people who claim they are literally bleeding for Christ, taking on the world's sufferings?)

Work continues on the new, revised edition of Walter Martin's classic textbook, The Kingdom of the Cults. In a move that has pleased many in countercult circles, prominent apologist and popular speaker Ravi Zacharias has been appointed new general editor.  CRI president Hank Hanegraaff, general editor of the 1997 edition, was dumped from the project, along with managing editor Gretchen Passantino over a variety of issues that include the ongoing CRI scandal.  Several chapters will be deleted from the forthcoming Zacharias edition, including Bob and Mrs. Passantino's widely discredited chapter on mind control that was inserted into the book, despite the fact that it varied greatly from views held by Martin himself -- and from practically the entire countercult movement!  The poor research evident in this chapter and its obvious faulty logic was among a number of issues behind the decision by various discernment ministries not to embrace the 1997 edition.  However, in recent days, Hank Hanegraaff's name was deleted from the paperback cover as General Editor and a statement was inserted at the beginning of the controversial Passantino chapter that asserts among other things that "some colleagues of Dr. Martin, as well as his family, believe his views on the issue of cult mind-control are that some people enter cults with their eyes wide open, and others are gradually ensnared, even coerced, through brainwashing techniques.  He believed brainwashing was a tragic reality in the world of the cults."

Why are you getting this E-mail update from the Alnors and the Christian Sentinel?  That's because you probably signed up to receive free E-mail updates through http://www.cultlink.com.   You also may have been placed on this E-mail list due to your previously receiving the Alnor Report or The Christian Sentinel Report, or you may be a fellow defender of the Christian faith along with the Alnors.  However, if you are on this list in error or if you want to be removed from receiving these reports, E-mail Bill Alnor, and he'll remove you.  Sincere apologies if you did not want to be on this list in the first place.  Also, please report on duplicates being sent to your address, and please tell us if you would rather receive a plain text version.

This video documents the rise of religious deception within the church from the beginning of the 1900s to the present day.  Length: 90 minutes.  It is filled with actual film footage of preachers caught in deception. Jesus warned us of the great falling away.  Yet, many are convincing Christians this very deception is an outpouring of revival.  See for yourselves how the spirit of Antichrist is within our churches.
